Hainan Airlines is an airline headquartered in Haikou, Hainan, China. It is the largest civilian-run and majority state-owned [5] air transport company, making it the fourth-largest airline in terms of fleet size in the People's Republic of China, and the tenth-largest airline in Asia [6] in terms of passengers carried.
It is a hub for Shenzhen Airlines and Donghai Airlines and for cargo airline SF Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines. The airport also serves as an Asian-Pacific cargo hub for UPS Airlines. [1] The airport underwent major expansions in the 2010s, with a second runway opening in 2011, and a new terminal in 2013.
This is a list of airlines which have a current Air Operator Certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (Chinese: ä¸å›½æ°‘用航空局). All airlines listed below are based in Mainland China. For airlines of Hong Kong, Macau, see List of airlines of Hong Kong and List of airlines of Macau.
After a test flight in March 2016, [10] the airport received its first commercial flight – a Hainan Airlines Boeing 737 from Beijing – on 17 March 2016. [11] For a short period thereafter, the airport remained open to domestic charter flights carrying Boao Forum attendees.
In 2006, there were 10 non-stop flights between the two countries, amounting to 2 million passenger trips per year. [4]Beginning in 2013, there were 28 non-stop routes (not including Hong Kong and Macau) operated by three major U.S. carriers: United, American, and Delta; and four Chinese carriers: Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Hainan Airlines.
