Jean Lafitte (/ dʒ iː n l ə ˈ f iː t / JEEN lə-FEET) is a town on Bayou Barataria in the U.S. state of Louisiana. Located in Jefferson Parish , it is named after the privateer Jean Lafitte . The population was 1,809 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ]
The town, which had been established sometime around 1870 by Jean-Pierre Fazende, had been "founded as a home for newly freed slaves," according to news reports. Over the next 2.7 miles (4.3 km), the roadway is flanked by small residences and boathouses lining Bayou Barataria on the west and a large body of water known as "The Pen" on the east. Louisiana Highway 3134 (LA 3134) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves Jefferson Parish. It spans 7.2 miles (11.6 km) in a north-south direction [ 1 ] along Leo Kerner/Lafitte Parkway between Jean Lafitte and Estelle (south of Marrero ) and acts as a four-lane bypass to the older Barataria Boulevard ( LA 45 ).

From the southwest, LA 560-4 begins at a dead-end east of the LA 45/LA 3134 (Leo Kerner/Lafitte Parkway, formerly Lafitte-Larose Highway) bridge over Bayou Barataria at Crown Point (near Jean Lafitte). It heads northeast on Sharpe Road along the north bank of the bayou before turning northwest to a terminus at LA 45 (Barataria Boulevard).
