The Swift County Courthouse is the seat of government for Swift County, Minnesota, United States, located in the city of Benson. It has been in continual use since its dedication in 1898. The building was designed in Richardsonian Romanesque style by the architectural firm of Buechner & Jacobson. [2]
Benson was incorporated as a city in 1908. [6] The town's early history included many tragedies, such as an 1872 smallpox epidemic, an 1876 grasshopper plague, and a fire in 1880 that wiped out a whole city block. [7] In 1869, the first general store in Benson was established. [7] A post office has been in operation at Benson since 1870. [8]
Swift County is in west central Minnesota and consists of 757 square miles (2,000 km 2) with three tiers of seven townships each.It was established on February 18, 1870, and named for Henry Adoniram Swift, the third governor of Minnesota (1863–64).

MN 9 serves as a north–south and east–west route between New London, Benson, Morris, Breckenridge, Barnesville, Ada, and Crookston in west-central and northwest Minnesota. Monson Lake State Park is located west of Sunburg and west of the junction of 9 and MN 104. The park entrance is located off MN 9 via County Road 95 (CR 95). [2]
