In 1662 the establishment for her crew was stated as 80/60/35 personnel dependent on wartime or peacetime and the number of guns carried. Her initial gun armament was established as 14 guns in 1653. By 1660 her armament was 14 guns wartime and 12 guns for peacetime. [6]
In early 1653 she came under the command of Captain Samuel Howett. She was at the Battle of Portland on 18 February 1653 as the Flagship of Rear-Admiral Howett in Red Squadron. [9] After the battle Captain John Stoakes took command. She remained in Red Squadron, Van Division for the Battle of the Gabbard on 2–3 June 1653. [10]

She was commissioned into the Parliamentary Navy in 1652 under the command of Captain Anthony Spatchurst. Later in 1652 she was under command of Captain William Tatnell. She partook in the Battle of Dungeness on 30 November 1652 [4] and the Battle of Portland from 18 to 20 February 1653. [5] During the battle Captain Tatnell was killed.
