The Chicago Cubs farm system consists of seven Minor League Baseball affiliates across the United States and in the Dominican Republic.Four teams are independently owned, while three—the Arizona Complex League Cubs and two Dominican Summer League Cubs squads—are owned by the major league club.

The team first competed in the Arizona League (AZL) in 1997, and has been a member of the league continuously since then. [1] During the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the team fielded two squads in the league, differentiated by suffixes (1 and 2, although some sources list them as Blue and Red). [1]
From 1994 to 2020, they were a Minor League Baseball team of the Class A Short Season New York–Penn League until MLB's reorganization of the minors after the 2020 season. Prior to this, they were affiliates of the Chicago Cubs (1994–1998), Pittsburgh Pirates (1999–2006), and Philadelphia Phillies (2007–2020).

In conjunction with Major League Baseball's restructuring of Minor League Baseball in 2021, the Cubs were organized into the High-A Central and remained a Chicago affiliate. [10] In 2022, the High-A Central became known as the Midwest League, the name historically used by the regional circuit prior to the 2021 reorganization. [11]
