Weener (German pronunciation: ⓘ) is a town in the district of Leer, in Lower Saxony, Germany.It is situated near the border with the Netherlands, on the river Ems.The towns population is at 15,654, making it the largest town of the region Rheiderland.
Wolfsburg was founded on 1 July 1938 as the Stadt des KdF-Wagens bei Fallersleben, ("City of the Strength Through Joy car at Fallersleben), a planned town centred around the village of Fallersleben, built to house workers of the Volkswagen factories erected to assemble what would be later known as the Volkswagen Beetle. During World War 2, from October 1944 to April 1945, the town was the site of a subcamp of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp that produced aircraft parts. In 1952, the town celebrated the 1100-year jubilee of the founding of the monastery by Liudolf. A history play, The Song of Gandersheim, was presented in the market square.
