The University of Nigeria, commonly referred to as UNN, is a federal and public research university located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Eastern part of Nigeria. Founded in 1955 by Nnamdi Azikiwe [ 5 ] [ 6 ] [ 7 ] who was the Governor General of Nigeria between 1960 and 1963, [ 8 ] and first President of Nigeria between 1963 and 1966. [ 9 ]
She was the Acting Head of Department of Commercial and Property Law between 2008 and 2013. The University Orator between 2011 and 2014, Associate Dean of Student Affairs Department, Enugu Campus between 2014 and 2018. She was also a vice chairperson and chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Enugu State.
The maiden graduation ceremony was held in 1984.The staff strength as at 1981–1994 was 89 academic staff, 8 administrative, 58 technical staff, 231 junior staff, totaling 378. Between 1991 and 1994, the total staff strength had reached 588 which was the result of expansion in all aspects of the college including infrastructure.
Onwumechili was born on 20 January 1932 at Inyi town in Oji River, a city in Enugu State, Eastern Nigeria. [6] He attended King's College, Lagos and received a bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of London in 1953 and master's degree in physics from the University of Ibadan in 1954. [7]
Emeka started his career in 1978 as a lecturer during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Kano State Institute for Higher Education, northern Nigeria. During his stays United States in late 1983 he was appointed Associate Professor and Chairman of Humanities at Edward Waters College, a four-year tertiary institution in Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A.
