Once word of Orochimaru's defeat by Sasuke reaches Konoha, Naruto decides that this would be a good opportunity to try to retrieve Sasuke again. Realizing that Sasuke is looking for Itachi, Naruto sets out with Sakura, Sai, Kakashi, Yamato, and the members of Team 8 to find either of the Uchiha brothers.
On the way to the country's border, Orochimaru gets ambushed by Kakashi, who easily gets defeated. A snake approaches Orochimaru. Unaware of the explosive tag concealed in its mouth, Orochimaru lets the snake slither onto his body. The paperbomb detonates and greatly injures Orochimaru forcing him to retreat and seek the agreed upon second hideout.
Inspired by Naruto's winning of their bet, Tsunade overcomes her restraints and joins Jiraiya in attacking Orochimaru. Unable to do combat with both of them, Orochimaru escapes with Kabuto.
