1) Set the "keep messages for" setting from Forever to 1 year - DONE & it automatically changed this setting on all my devices. 2) Go into manage iCloud storage settings and select "disable & delete". 3) Hopefully all messages will then be removed and take up zero storage in iCloud. I will then turn Messages syncing back on again.

Looks like you're getting a popped up of iCloud on your startup. This usually occurs when it's enabled on Startup Settings. During that 30 day window I also deleted all messages off the iPad. Yesterday I turned Message in the cloud back on. All the messages on my phone uploaded to the Cloud and they also downloaded to my iPad. Deleting messages syncs across my Devices however, toggling Messages o off/on in iCloud results in the deleted message being downloaded.

If Messages shows in iCloud then it isn’t your standard iMessage backup… it’s just your “Sync’d across all devices” backup which is useless if you only use one Apple device. Standard iMessage backups are backed up separately from your visible iCloud storage and you don’t see that anywhere. Last edited: Sep 6, 2022. F.
