The Greenwich Episcopal society was organized in 1805, and its first church was built on this property in 1844, on the location now occupied by the parsonage. The present church was built in 1868-69, and the original church was replaced by the parsonage in 1872. The property originally included a row of horse sheds; these were demolished in 1923.

The Bethel AME Church is located north of downtown Greenwich, on the south side of Lake Street opposite the Greenwich Hospital campus. It is a single-story structure, with a gabled roof and stucco exterior. A square tower projects from the front left corner, capped by a pyramidal roof with flared eaves.
