Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital, also known as Prasuti Griha (Nepali: प्रसूति गृह), is the first maternity hospital of Nepal. It is located on Maternity Hospital Road, in Thapathali, Kathmandu, Nepal. The hospital was established on 17 August 1959 and has 415 beds.

While a few eager Nepalese doctors established Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on March 4, 1951 to unite all the practicing doctors. [5] They strongly raised their voices to have medical council to regulate the medical practice in Nepal and Nepal Medical Council (NMC) was established on 28 February 1964. [6]
Most of Nepal's health care facilities are concentrated in urban areas. Rural health facilities often lack adequate funding. [27] In 2003, Nepal had 10 health centers, 83 hospitals, 700 health posts, and 3,158 "sub-health posts," which serve villages. In addition, there were 1,259 physicians, one for every 18,400 persons. [28]
NMC was established in 1964 under Nepal Medical Council Act 1964. Chairman of NMC is nominated by Government of Nepal whereas Vice-Chairman is elected from NMC members. [5] NMC is one of many statutory bodies related to Healthcare in Nepal. It mainly deals with code and conduct of medical doctors registered in this council.
