Sylvan Lake is a city in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. A northern suburb of Detroit, Sylvan Lake is located roughly 26 miles (41.8 km) from downtown Detroit, and borders Pontiac to the east. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 1,720. [4]
Sylvan Lake is an all-sports, 458-acre (185 ha) Oakland County, Michigan lake along the main branch of the Clinton River. To the north is 74-acre Otter Lake , which joins the 458-acre (185 ha) Sylvan Lake, for a total of 532 acres (215 ha) of lake, making it the seventh largest lake in Oakland County.

The communities of West Bloomfield, Orchard Lake Village, Keego Harbor, and Sylvan Lake make up what is known as Greater West Bloomfield. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 31.2 square miles (81 km 2), of which 27.3 square miles (71 km 2) is land and 3.9 square miles (10 km 2), or 12.49%, is water.

M-55 passes over the US 127 freeway and enters Houghton Lake Heights. There the highway runs southeasterly along the shores of Houghton Lake into downtown Houghton Lake. M-18 briefly joins M-55 through Prudenville on the east side of the lake, and M-55 follows West Branch Road as it continues east toward Interstate 75 (I-75). [2] [3]
M-5 was used as the designation for the former US 2 in Mackinac and Chippewa counties until 1939, when it was redesignated as M-129 on maps. [ 2 ] [ 12 ] The last gravel sections of roadway were paved in 1960 south of Sault Ste. Marie, [ 13 ] and the highway was truncated to end at M-134 in Cedarville in 1963. [ 14 ]
