People ask for patterns, and we post the links and then they get lost in the ever growing maze of the Wood Carving Illustrated Forum website.

    The wood then had the outline in pencil on it ready to cut. If using this method it pays to sand the wood fairly finely say 400 grit to get a good clear pattern transfer. If you are doing a piece with a LOT of detail then spray the pattern on the wood with a good dose of HAIR SPRAY.

There are 11 patterns...baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the 3 wise men, an angel, a shepherd, a chicken, horse and sheep.

    Draw either the profile or front view first. When you draw the second view, the lines on the paper help you to make sure that everything is drawn to the same height. For making a blank on the band saw, usually a front and profile view is all that is used. Tom Wolfe used just a single view for many of his patterns though!
