11-05-2023, 11:41 AM. I recently purchased a couple of Kryshak carving knives thinking they would be comparable to the Shipley carving knives (my favorite). Not even close in quality. If it is 1mm thick at the spine and 25mm wide, a "flat bevel" would be less than four degrees and would not hold up to the stresses of carving. As stated above the bevel angle should be 10 to 12 degrees. Last edited by pallin; 08-15-2019, 10:31 AM .
Hello, I just started wood carving, mostly small characters and wood spirits. I was using clear pine while waiting for my basswood order. Also I was using a utility knife while waiting for my 3 flex-cut knives. I used the small flex-cut knife which is sharp but the utility knife is even sharper, very thin blade, and has a fine
There seems to be no qualms about blatant copying. The recently introduced Schaaf woodcarving gouges are exact copies of Pfeil gouges, except for stamping the handles "SWISS MADE." With the help of a secondary market of entrepeneurs willing to commission the tools, they come quite close to the quality of the originals at a much lower price.
