    5. Jan 29, 2024. #1. I can't figure out how to edit the subject line but it should say late 1950's to early 1960 (which was when I was in Japan). I was nine years old in 1960 when I went with my mother and father to Mikimoto Island in Japan. (My dad was in the Air Force stationed at Tachikawa Air Force Base in Tokyo.)

If the clasp is the current swirly ribbon with a pearl, the pearls are A1 or A+. Only the AA and AAA have the diamond clasps. You can change out the clasps but the current pearl clasps cannot be re-clasped into one with a diamond. Either type of clasp is not available in 14k.

Oct 9, 2014. #1. I have a 17" set of Mikimoto pearls with a clasp with the M in clamshell plus an S. I am trying to figure out what the S stands for. This 3 strand set was given to my mother in law in the 60's or 70's as a gift. I do not have the original box but they appear to be in good condition. I do feel a bit of the "gritty" texture that ...

    4. Aug 16, 2012. #1. I have a 17 inch strand with 14K white gold and diamond single bow-tie clasp. The Lane, Crawford's paperwork and Mikimoto booklet show this necklace was purchased in 1962 with 50 pearls and clasp #HF 192. The necklace has 50 pearls and the gold clasp a few diamonds. However, while the clasp is marked 14K I do not see an "M ...

If it does not have a Mikimoto clasp, let alone the sales slip, it is not a Mikimoto. Though some sales people mean "akoya" when they say "Mikimoto", it is not an honest sales trick. However, $325 was a reasonable price, especially since it is long. Nice clasp.

Nov 8, 2016. #9. The clasp looks like it could be Mikimoto to me. It's silver and it's shiny, which means it has a good rhodium plating on the silver to prevent tarnish. The pearls look nice. They look like they've been restrung, because the gimp (French wire next to the clasp) is tarnished. $600 Australian dollars is about $464 USD which is a ...

Messages. 9,643. Jan 20, 2024. #2. I think that a grade A Mikimoto would be of lower quality-- or at least, not higher quality-- than a Pearl Paradise Hanadama. I'm sure it would be beautiful, but I can't imagine a Miki grade A -- the lowest grade on their website-- would have higher luster than a Hanadama. Would you still want the necklace if ...
