I have made anumber of other mods to the lathe. See for example: Lowering topslide of a mini lathe. here. Mini Lathe tailstock alignment here. Stiffening A Mini Lathe Bed here. And a few other mods here. Overall the mini lathe is a fine machine to start with and gave me (still gives me) endless hours of fun. Petros.

  4. Mini Lathe - Turning Between Centers? | The Hobby-Machinist

Nov 13, 2023. #2. If I understand correctly, you have faced and center drilled the bar in preparation for turning between centers. If the bare is to length, turn to diameter using a lathe dog. Then reverse the bar and turn the area which was inaccessible due to the lathe dog. If you have excess length to allow for the lathe dog, you can turn ...

It is probably around 30 years old but appeared to be unused when I got it 2 years ago. I paid 700 dollars for it and it has a huge amount of accessories and a quick change tool post with several ...

    12. Nov 4, 2015. #1. Hi, I was just wondering how happy or pleased everyone is with their lathe purchase. I am in the market for a mini lathe and after about 20 hrs of research I have come to the conclusion that a sherline lathe is a good investment. But before I purchase I wanted to get feedback from the community about their sherline lathes.

  9. Aligning a mini-lathe - The Hobby-Machinist

    www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/aligning-a-mini-lathe.86434

Aug 30, 2020. #1. It seems to me that aligning a mini-lathe is a little different from bigger ones. For one, the geometry of the lathe is different. So the adjustments would be a little different. I've found a copy of Rollie's Dad Method of Lathe Alignment. I've just done the first horizontal measurements. The test rod is ground and 20 mm in ...

Messages. 89. Feb 21, 2024. #1. The 7x mini-lathe has now been available for quite some time - well over 20 years which is about when I bought my first - Homier 7x12. (A personal aside - after being lathe-less for a few years, I was going to get a 9x20, but got a good deal on a 7x16 and went that direction - poor decision.)

  11. HSS or Carbide Tools for Mini-Lathe | The Hobby-Machinist

Oct 3, 2021. #1. I have heard that HSS tools make a better finish with light cuts on a mini-lathe than carbide tools. I have been using indexable carbide tools on my Central Machinery 7 x 10 Mini-Lathe, but not pleased with the results. I'm considering trying some pre-ground HSS tools, since I mainly turn aluminum or mild steel.
