FRAPS was the only FPS counter I found that was working on MSFS, at least until the DX12 update. For some reason that I haven't been able to figure out, the frame rate counter that is part of the AMD Adrenalin software that came with my GPU doesn't work on MSFS.
I recently got FRAPS because I wanted not only to record more than a few seconds of FSX flight but also wanted to share some of it with others. Is there anyone out there who uses this program? I loaded it up (v3.5.9), and thought I had it set correctly (not a lot to set, is there?) until I starte...
To set up MSFS I used FRAPS Mark. Once set up, the only thing I noticed was you can VS to set a locked FPS 30 in my case, but read it's not a good idea. So within NV Control panel I set MSFS to 30 FPS and tested it again with FRAPS it works really well. I also use TrackIR
Fraps won't work with V5, since it is DX12 and Fraps isn't compatible with DX12. Bummer, I used to use it for my videos as well, I use the ATI Radeon's recorder now instead, there is an equivalent NVidia one if you have an NVidia GPU.
On top of what CXA001 said...FSrecorder also allows you to "record" in game footage (like how fraps does in .wmv files), so that is a real alternative to using fraps. But by using FSrecorder to film in-game footage...you won't be able to record sound from FSX which is a negative. But I still recommend that you try it out.
Initially, FRAPS was problematic for me, but I found the trick to running FRAPS (for me) was to ensure that FRAPS is loaded before launching P3Dv3 or 4. KROSWYND a.k.a KILO_WHISKEY Majestic Software Development/Support
Fraps capture what is on your screen without compression. Also, for me, using Nvidia's external frame rate limiter with unlimited set in fsx help reduce jerks in the recordings. Link to comment
Fraps hasn't been upgraded for a long long time so that many users have capture problem with it. I guess your black screen may be a compatibility issue. So why don't you try some other frequently-upgraded game recording software like OBS, recorder from AMD/Nvidia graphics card software, Ezvid, Bandicam, RecMaster ...
Since the update, FRAPS does not seem to work anymore, I am missing the info on the upper left corner of my screen... Do fellows FRAPS users experience the same? Or am I the only one? Thanks in advance for your input J-Louis
I've tried customer support with Fraps many times, the're either sleeping, died, or they don't support their product any more. I record Fraps in PD3v4 in Win 10 and I no longer get any video on playback, I get audio but no video since January. I'm not sure if this is a Win10 update problem or a Fraps issue.
