The Midtown Beer Garden (formerly known as the Southwest 5th Avenue food cart pod) is a food cart pod in Portland, Oregon, United States. The pod is the city's oldest, operating since the early 1980s. Following an update and renovation in 2023, the pod became known as Midtown Beer Garden.
The pod opened at Stark Street and 10th Avenue in southeast Portland's Buckman neighborhood in April 2023, [1] [2] in the space previously occupied by MidCity SmashedBurger. [3] Businesses in the pod are LGBTQ- and/or BIPOC-owned. [4] The project is a collaboration between ChefStable and the restaurant group Win Win.
The pod has hosted events. In 2023, the site hosted a floral installation, [ 6 ] as well as a dance party and ice cream social following the Pride Bike Ride. [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] In 2024, the Cart Blocks hosted another dance party for Pride [ 10 ] and a Juneteenth market highlighting Black-owned businesses .
Michael Russell ranked Yoshi's fourth in The Oregonian 's list of Portland's best new food carts of 2019. [9] The business was included in the Daily Hive 's 2021 list of the Portland's seven "most delicious" sushi restaurants and Noms Magazine 's 2024 overview of the city's twelve best sushi options (which recommended the Hotate).
