The real Sue Thomas appears in the episode "Billy The Kid". Thomas, who acted as a consultant for the show, plays a deaf actress named Deanne (a parody of lead actress Deanne Bray, who is also deaf). She meets the character Sue Thomas (played by Bray) in the hospital and has a quick chat with her. She plays the same role in the final episode.
Sue Thomas (May 24, 1950 – December 13, 2022) was an American author and former agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She was the first deaf person to work as an undercover specialist, performing lip-reading of suspects.
Sue Thomas was born in Rearsby, a small village in Leicestershire, England, where her maternal grandparents owned a rose-growing business. [citation needed] Her parents were both Dutch: her mother, Dora had been brought to the UK as a small child, whilst her father, Wim, grew up in The Netherlands and emigrated to England to marry her mother in 1950.
