Houston Community College, also known as the Houston Community College System (HCCS), is a community college that operates community colleges in Houston, Missouri City, Greater Katy, and Stafford in Texas. It is notable for actively recruiting internationally and for the large number of international students enrolled, over 5,700 in 2015.
HCC offers more than one hundred programs of study and awards associate degrees, certificates and letters of recognition. [2] The college's incubator is meant to spur investment in the local community. [8] The school held its first graduation in 1948 awarding twenty-five degrees. Since then, the school has had more than 175,000 students. [2]

[55] By the 1990s HISD's student body was increasingly made up of racial and ethnic minority groups. [77] In 1999 4,400 students in the HISD boundaries were attending state-chartered schools. [78]

HCC was one of the last community colleges to be created in Florida, founded in 1968. Only Pasco–Hernando State College , out of the 28-school Florida community college system, was founded later. In January 2008 the school opened its first residence hall, Hawk's Landing, named after the school mascot.
