FM Derana is a free-to-air Sinhala radio channel in Sri Lanka.Established in March 2009, FM Derana broadcasts 24 hours a day and covers over 95% of the island. Designed to appeal to a broad cross-section of listeners, FM Derana leverages the strength and success of TV Derana.
In October 2020, she voiced the theme song “Obata Lanvee” with Raween Kanishka for FM Derana “Apoorva” radio drama. [1] [9] She was pushed more into the public sphere after she sang the theme song Sihinayak Mewna in March, 2021, for the Iskole teledrama, which was broadcast on TV Derana. [1]
Kiss FM (Finland) (now defunct) was the first radio station that started using Visual Radio. Sri Lanka had no television services available until 1979. The creation of a national television service was planned several times as far back as 1965 (Ceylon at the time), when then-Minister of State J. R. Jayawardene suggested its creation, but was rejected by Dudley Senanayake's government, whose media advisors led by Neville Jayaweera called television "a gift of a rhinoceros".
