The State College Area School District (SCASD) is a large, suburban and rural public school district based in State College, Pennsylvania. The district's territory includes the borough of State College, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding townships of College, Ferguson, Halfmoon, Harris, and Patton. It also includes a portion of Benner Township. [3]
The school was founded in 1934 and run by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM). In 1933, the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary purchased the Riggs-Thompson House and several undeveloped lots along Ellsworth Drive, Pershing Drive and Springvale Road. Originally the school began as an elementary school.

The majority of State College candidates were split into two slates, United for SCASD and Slate for State, with only Laurel Zydney and Megan Layng running as independent candidates.
The two confraternities were essentially merged under the name "The Confraternity of the most Holy Names of God and Jesus", and exclusive rights to their governance were given to the Dominicans.
