Buffalo Town Square Historic District is a national historic district located at Buffalo, Putnam County, West Virginia. It encompasses three contributing buildings all in the Greek Revival on the town square: the Buffalo Academy (1849), Buffalo Presbyterian Church (1857), and Buffalo Methodist Church (1870). [ 2 ]
Francis Cartwright, a master builder and architect, who was established as a "competent provincial designer in the Palladian manner", [11] worked on Stourhead between 1749 and 1755. Cartwright was a known carver, presumably of materials such as wood and stone, and it is assumed that his contribution to Stourhead was in this capacity.
Sir Henry Hugh Arthur Hoare, 6th Baronet (19 November 1865 – 25 March 1947) was an English landowner, best known for his restoration of the country house at Stourhead in Wiltshire, following a fire in April 1902. [1] Prior to his death he donated the house and gardens to the National Trust.

This site sits atop a high terrace on the eastern bank of the Kanawha River and was once home to a variety of Native American villages including the Archaic, Middle Woodland and Fort Ancient cultures of this region.
