Los Angeles Valley College was founded on September 12, 1949, to meet the tremendous growth of the San Fernando Valley during the 1940s and early 1950s. The college was officially chartered by the Los Angeles Board of Education in June 1949 and was located on the campus of Van Nuys High School .
In 1956, playing high school baseball for Fairfax High School, Wold batted .566 and was named to the Los Angeles All City Baseball Team. [1]In both 1957 and 1958, at Los Angeles Valley College, Wold was All-League and All-Southern California in basketball for the Monarchs, and playing left field for the Monarchs baseball team was named to the 1958 All-League baseball second team.
