The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in Palo Alto, California, in 1965. [1] [2] Known for their eclectic style that fused elements of rock, blues, jazz, folk, country, bluegrass, rock and roll, gospel, reggae, and world music with psychedelia, [3] [4] the band is famous for improvisation during their live performances, [5] [6] and for their devoted fan base, known as "Deadheads".
The middle two pages feature a photomontage of eight photos, three in color and five in black-and-white, of the band members performing on stage. The penultimate page contains a single black-and-white photo of the band on stage backed by a color photo showing lightning bolts, and the last page lists the contents of and credits for the release. Included with the release is a single sheet folded in half, yielding a four-page enclosure. The front duplicates the cover of the CD and the back contains a black-and-white photograph showing the entire scene: two skeletons on top of the stage, the sound system and lights above the band, the band on stage, and finally, at the bottom of the image, a portion of the crowd watching them.
