There are nine regions in the Forest Service; numbered 1 through 10 (Region 7 was eliminated in 1965 when the current Eastern Region was created from the former Eastern and North Central regions. It is 20 miles northwest of Roanoke, Virginia and about two miles southeast of Glasgow, Virginia. Interstate 81 parallels the area on the west and Va 122 on the east.
The area is located in the Appalachian Mountains of Southwestern Virginia, about 4 miles east of New Castle, Virginia. It is between Va 614 on the west and Va 666 on the east. Ramsey's Draft Wilderness is a designated wilderness area in the North River Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of Virginia in the United States. The wilderness area was established in 1984 and comprises 6,518 acres (26.38 km 2). [1] It is administered by the US Forest Service.
