Oakhurst is near major transportation arteries but has a limited number of roads connecting it to downtown Decatur due to the east-west MARTA line. DeKalb Avenue/East College Avenue is the northern boundary of Oakhurst. East College Avenue serves as a primary entry point to the neighborhood from Avondale Estates and Interstate 285.
A 2-acre (8,100 m 2) nature preserve purchased in 2004, and located between Glennwood Estates and Decatur Heights. The primary entrance to the preserve is at the end of Fairview Street in Decatur Heights, but there are two private access points from Glennwood Estates. Glenn Creek bisects the site, running from the SE to the NW.
Historic Decatur Cemetery is located to the north, and affluent Glynnwood Estates, developed in 1927, and Glenwood school border Ponce de Leon Court on the east. Ponce de Leon Court is a local historic district in the city of Decatur, and was listed in the Georgia Register of Historic Places in June 2010.
It contains some of the largest homes in Decatur, including the historic High House – the first two-story house built in the city. The Death House (named for a family of that name) was moved from 719 to 813 Sycamore Street for the construction of MARTA; it is west of Sycamore Park (where the Death House once stood).
