Celtic Weekly Newspapers is a series of seven weekly newspapers published in south Wales by Media Wales Ltd (formerly Western Mail & Echo Ltd), part of Reach plc. The titles in the series are: Cynon Valley Leader
The paper was founded as the South Wales Argus and Monmouthshire Daily Leader on 30 May 1892. An early description of the paper reads, "The South Wales Argus, the only evening paper printed and published in Newport and Monmouthshire was established in 1892, and the South Wales Weekly Argus and Star of Gwent the only weekly paper printed and published in Newport, was established in 1829.
Blaenau Gwent (/ ˌ b l aɪ n aɪ ˈ ɡ w ɛ n t /; Welsh: [ˈbləi.nai]) is a county borough in the south-east of Wales. It borders the unitary authority areas of Monmouthshire and Torfaen to the east, Caerphilly to the west and Powys to the north.
Horse and buggy (circa 1910) helped union members make their deliveries. The NMDU grew out of the Newsboys' strike of 1899.On October 29, 1901, the union formed. "It was born as a union of horse-and-buggy newspaper deliverymen at the turn of the century, a stepchild of the fledgling labor movement and New York's yellow journalism wars."
Gwent Archives (Welsh: Archifau Gwent) is the local records office and genealogy centre, based in Ebbw Vale, South Wales for the historic county of Monmouthshire. It covers the modern local authority areas of Blaenau Gwent , Caerphilly County Borough , Monmouthshire , Newport and Torfaen .
The county council was abolished in 1996 and Blaenau Gwent became a principal area with county borough status, with the council taking over the functions previously performed by the county council. [4] Borough status allows Blaenau Gwent to give the chair of the council the title of mayor.
