The school, formerly known as Englewood Catholic Academy, was formed in 1984 from the consolidation of several parish schools, including St. Benedict the African School, St. Bernard School, St. Brendan School, St. Justin Martyr School, and St. Carthage School.
As of 2007, the co-educational Academy and its some 1893 students are housed in one main building and a number of separate mobile structures belonging to the former Saint Patrick's Boys' and Saint Patrick's Girls' Academies. Saint Patrick's Academy's present grounds are demolished and students moved into the new school on 1 September 2018.
Saint Patrick's determined that renovating the building was unfeasible, and in 2016, it announced plans to relocate to a new facility. [6] Under the plan, the school was renamed Saint Patrick Academy and became independent rather than a parochial school; [4] the Hope for Tomorrow Foundation was started to take fiduciary responsibility for it. The Academy is the only school in Northern Ireland to be awarded a grant from the “Friends of the Classics” to develop a Classics and Latin course which is offered to all our first year pupils. [5] The academy is a member of the Lisburn Area Learning Community (LALC) which links it with other local schools and the further education college.
