Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (or simply the Nassau Coliseum) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Uniondale, Nassau County, New York, on Long Island. The venue is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) east of the eastern limits of the borough of Queens in New York City , adjacent to the Meadowbrook Parkway .
The team began play in December 2019 with its home arena being the Nassau Coliseum. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The Riptide mark the return of the National Lacrosse League to the Long Island area after the departure of the New York Saints ( 1989 – 2003 ) and the New York Titans ( 2006 – 2009 ), both of whom also played at Nassau Coliseum.
The team played their games at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, on another part of Mitchel Field. In 2013, the New York Cosmos opened a new practice facility for the team with remodeled soccer fields within the large site, [8] and in 2019 the club announced that they would play their regular-season games at the complex. [9]
The New York Islanders move half of their home schedule to their former arena, Nassau Coliseum, while continuing to play half their home games at Barclays Center. The Scottrade Center was renamed Enterprise Center. The Air Canada Centre was renamed Scotiabank Arena. Totals do not include two outdoor regular-season and international games.
By the mid-2000s, Nassau Coliseum was the fourth-oldest facility in the NHL, behind the twice-renovated Madison Square Garden in Manhattan (which remains in use today), the Pittsburgh Civic Arena (built in 1961 and replaced in 2010), and Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton (built in 1974, replaced in 2016).
