Like a bittersweet scene straight out of "The Notebook," a video has surfaced on social media of a 92-year-old man singing a love song to his dying wife in her hospital room.
"Old Man" is a song written and performed by Canadian rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Neil Young from his 1972 album Harvest. "Old Man" was released as a single on Reprise Records in the spring of 1972, reaching number 4 in Canada, [ 3 ] and number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the week ending June 3.
The song was later covered by Merle Haggard on If We Make It Through December (1974). After Frizzell died in 1975, Haggard wrote a tribute song, "Goodbye Lefty" that referenced the 1952 song: "But the old old man is gone. There'll be no more Lefty's songs."
