Dirt track racing is a type of auto racing performed on oval tracks in Canada. While not as widespread as in the U.S., is still quite popular. Most of the provinces offer several venues for both local racing and special events.
The track record for the Rolex Sports Car Series is 1:32.620. The time was set by Scott Pruett driving for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Daytona Prototype class in 2010 . The fastest ever lap around the circuit was set by Sebastian Vettel with a time of 1:10.240 set in qualifying (Q3) for the 2019 Canadian Grand Prix .
Dirt track racing is the single most common form of auto racing in the United States. According to the National Speedway Directory, there are over 700 dirt oval tracks in operation in the US. [1] The composition of the dirt on tracks has an effect on the amount of grip available. Many tracks use clay with a specific mixture of dirt.
The track is the first in Alberta to be sanctioned by NASCAR, [2] and hosts races in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. It hosted its first NASCAR Pinty's Series race in 2014 . [ 3 ] On July 26 & 27, 2024 Edmonton International Raceway will host a newly branded NASCAR Canada Series Event, the only NASCAR Event in Alberta, Canada.
