Shamrock (Meskwaki: Shêmwâkeki [5]) is an unincorporated town in Creek County, Oklahoma, United States, located on Oklahoma State Highway 16 south of Drumright and west-northwest of Bristow. [6] The population was 65 at the time of the 2020 census. [ 7 ]
In 1898, the St. Louis and Oklahoma City Railway Company (later the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway), [4] connected Sapulpa and Oklahoma City. [3] The present Creek County was established at the time of statehood, with a population of 18,365. The town of Sapulpa was initially designated as the county seat.
The Downtown Hobart Historic District, in Hobart, Oklahoma, is a 36 acres (15 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. [1] The district is roughly bounded by Jefferson St., 3rd, Washington, 4th, and the 200 and 500 blocks of S. Main St.
The following year, the AT&SF built a line north from Shamrock to Drumright. The Oil Fields and Santa Fe Railway was merged into the AT&SF in 1941. [7] In 1919 a riot broke out in Drumright during a strike by telephone workers. The town's mayor and chief of police were locked in the town jail by rioters.

The Sapulpa and Oil Field Railroad (S&OF) was a shortline railway which was constructed by 1915 or 1916 from the oil boomtown of Depew, Oklahoma to the newer boomtown of Shamrock, Oklahoma, about 9 miles. [1] [2] [3] Despite the name, the line never came close to the city of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, which was far to the northeast. [4]

In 1902, the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railway set up a station in the town, calling it "Wheeler" like the county, but later changing it back to the original name of Shamrock in 1903, which prompted the reopening of the Shamrock post office. By 1907, the town was competing with the towns of Story and Benonine as trade centers. [6]
