The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), based in Amarillo, Texas, United States, is an international organization dedicated to the preservation, improvement and record-keeping of the American Quarter Horse. The association sanctions many competitive events and maintains the official registry.

Scamper was a bay American Quarter Horse gelding foaled in 1977 and given the registered name Gills Bay Boy. Walter "Buddy" Draper raised Scamper in Wetmore, Colorado. The gelding could be tracked to Three Bars on his sire's side. [1] When Scamper bucked Buddy off, sending him to the hospital, [2] he sent the horse to an auction.

A gelding is a castrated male horse or other equine, such as a pony, donkey or a mule. The term is also used with certain other animals and livestock , such as domesticated camels . [ 1 ] By comparison, the equivalent term for castrated male cattle would be steer (or bullock ), and wether for sheep and goats .
