Gills Bay Boy (1977 – July 4, 2012), nicknamed "Scamper", was a ProRodeo Hall of Fame timed-event horse notable for his success in barrel racing. His owner, Charmayne James , rode Scamper from 1984 to 1993 in the National Finals Rodeo (NFR).
James retired Scamper in 1993, except for an occasional race, and he died on July 4, 2012, at age 35. [5] [9] Scamper received the 1992 AQHA Silver Spur Award which is "the equine world's equivalent of the Academy Award". [13] James announced her retirement from competition in 2003 after winning a record 11 WPRA World Championships. [5]
