Maxwell Hendler (born 1938) is an American painter. In 1975, he became the first contemporary artist to have pictures in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

While there, he participated in the activities of numerous art associations. Max Frey moved to Frankfurt in 1904 and married the daughter of a manufacturer. Later, in 1906, they moved to Dresden. In 1907, he became a teacher in graphic design and painting at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and taught a newly created class especially for women.
He was apprenticed to a locksmith before beginning his artistic training with the local painter Hermann Becker in 1861. [1] He entered the Munich Academy in 1864, subsequently studying with several artists including Carl Theodor von Piloty.
