The Cut is a reality television series for world class fashion designers hosted and sponsored by fashion designer and billionaire Tommy Hilfiger. Sixteen designers split into new teams each week to complete tasks, with a player eliminated each round. [1] [2] The show debuted on CBS, and shifted timeslots through the summer.
The series began as a one-hour show on July 3, 1954, as a summer replacement for The Jackie Gleason Show. [citation needed] In late 1955 it debuted from 8–8:30 p.m. ET, on Saturdays [1] in the time slot prior to The Honeymooners, his own series. In 1956, Jack Carter, a frequent guest, became the permanent host.
The series was a ratings success and gained a loyal following. It was popular in the United States and around the world. Two television films, Lost Treasure of Atlantis and Trail to Doomsday, aired on ABC in 1994. A spin-off series, Young MacGyver, was planned in 2003, but only the pilot was made.
Furthermore, the series has a great script, which includes the major events during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, such as the Vietnam War or the assassination of John F. Kennedy. [3] Tom Shales ( The Deseret News ) adds that the tale is very well plotted and "irresistible as a good rumor". [ 2 ]
