Usagi Yojimbo (兎用心棒, Usagi Yōjinbō, "rabbit bodyguard") is a comic book series created by Stan Sakai.It is set primarily at the beginning of the Edo period of Japanese history and features anthropomorphic animals replacing humans.
Samurai Warrior: The Battles of Usagi Yojimbo is a video game released for the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC platforms in 1988, by the now-defunct label Firebird. It is based on the comic book Usagi Yojimbo, which featured the adventures of an anthropomorphic samurai rabbit. The game closely follows some of the themes of the comic.
Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles takes place in Neo Edo and centers on rabbit teenager Yuichi, who is the descendant of Miyamoto Usagi, and his group of eccentric companions (Gen, Kitsune and Chizu) while defending Neo Edo from invading forces of the city from the menace of Kagehito and the Yokai.
Miyamoto Usagi is the main protagonist of Usagi Yojimbo, whom Sakai has said was inspired by the life of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. [9] [10] [11] Originally intended to be a human, Sakai was inspired to anthropomorphize the character after doodling a rabbit with its ears bound in a style reminiscent of a samurai topknot.
The show’s protagonist, teenage samurai rabbit Yuichi Usagi, is a descendant of Miyamoto Usagi, the great warrior and protagonist of Sakai’s original comic book series.

He was exclusively featured in the Usagi Yojimbo crossover comics "Shades of Green" #1-3 (featuring the Mirage-Turtles) and TMNT/Usagi Yojimbo (with the IDW-Turtles). His name (欠片; engl. "splinter") and appearance are a clear nod to Splinter, the adoptive father of the Turtles.
