The mission of the Yankton Community Library is to uphold the public’s freedom of access to information by providing a dynamic collection in a variety of formats and technologies and responding to the needs of the community through timely services and programs.
Established in 1903, Yankton Community Library is one of the oldest public libraries in South Dakota. Moving from its Carnegie building location to its current site at 515 Walnut Street in 1973, the Library has since been supported by the City of Yankton, with contributions from Yankton County.

We advocate for the growth and development of our library through financial support. Established in 2009, the Foundation exists to raise money, receive bequests, and increase public awareness for a new state-of-the-art facility to meet our community’s growing needs.
The Friends of the Yankton Community Library is a 501C3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to enhance the activities and goals of the Yankton Community Library and the Library Foundation.

The mission of the Yankton Seed Library is to increase our ability to feed ourselves wholesome food, while enriching our natural surroundings, by offering: free local fruit, vegetable, and flower seeds raised by and for Yankton area residents; and complimentary information, instruction and education about gardening.
