Sonic 3 AIR uses the original game's files, but Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute need the Christian Whitehead remasters, which weren't on Steam (you wouldn't have been able to get them anyway).
These ports include enhancements at the original games did not have: Spindash on Sonic 1 and CD, Tails Playable (with his flight ability) on Sonic 1, 2 and CD, Knuckles in Sonic 1 and 2, Widescreen, and even a new playable zone for Sonic 2 exclusive to this version, both keyboard and controller support and MORE!
Step 8. You can now move your Sonic 1 apk and Sonic 2 apk folders into the trash because they are no longer needed Step 9. Copy the glew32.dll file, the SDL2.dll file, and the settings.ini file and paste them into both the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 folders Step 10. Copy the RSDKv4_64_rev02.exe file and paste it into the Sonic 1 folder Step 11.
Sonic 2 last version is 3.1.5 (47MB 2015-04-13) Sonic CD last version is 1.0.6 (262MB 2013-04-05) (760KB APK, 261MB OBB) I searched for those files myself not too long ago because I wanted to experience the enhanced versions properly, I'm 99% sure the files I found are the real thing, and thus malware free.

Sonic CD can also be done with an APK, however if you have the Steam port you can also simply use files from that release. I will not be posting any apk or game file ...
For anyone interested in Sonic 1, download Sonic The Hedgehog forever instead. You'll need the full Android apk though, but you get more features than just the base decomp. Reply reply
I have extracted my apk files for both games and gotten the bat file started but I keep getting the message: echo The data file could not be extracted. echo Please make sure you have provided a copy of "Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Classic". Should I rename the apk to sonic the hedgehog /2 classic or am I missing a step somewhere?
Grab the easy install versions of Sonic 1 Forever and Sonic 2 Absolute. These are PC ports of the Retro Engine remakes, with loads of new features. Put your .APK files in the folders of their respective games (the Sonic 1 .APK goes in the same folder as the other Sonic 1 Forever files.) Run the games once.
To build on Linux, clone the repo, cd to the directory, and run "make" in the terminal. Then, copy the "Data.rsdk" file extracted from either the sonic 1 or 2 APK into the bin folder and run the "sonic2013" file to launch the game
