Lorenzo Marvin Baker was born April 25, 1834, and came to Columbus, Ohio in 1854. [1] He worked at the Neil House Hotel, and was an officer in the state penitentiary under Governor Chase, and served for a short time in the Union Army during the American Civil War. [1] [2] In 1862 he started a photography business and established a gallery. [1] [2]
As a medical photographer at the Ohio State University, he met his second wife, Mary Ann Williams (1945-1991). [ 2 ] [ 4 ] Williams was a professor of theater and communication in the Black studies department and the host of the WOSU TV show Afromation where he would take the publicity photos for guests. [ 2 ]
The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 1982; the district boundaries differ between the two entries. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] The Snowden-Gray House , a High Victorian -style two-and-a-half-story mansion with a cupola , built in 1852, is salient in the district.
The Kelton House Museum and Garden is a Greek Revival and Italianate mansion in the Discovery District of Downtown Columbus, Ohio.The museum was established by the Junior League of Columbus to promote an understanding of daily life, customs, and decorative arts in 19th-century Columbus and to educate visitors about the Underground Railroad.
