I had the Forge file in ".minecraft" (not just "minecraft", in .minecraft as in the file folder .minecraft). I downloaded forge and dragged it into .minecraft the first time. I didn't change any settings, I downloaded forge and put it inside of .minecraft, the folder where everything for Minecraft is.
Hello, I am crashing upon attempting to load Minecraft under the forge launcher. First, I should start with the paste bin. ---DELETED---. This was on the curse forge launcher as I could not find the log for the forge file installer. But I had the same issue on both so this should suffice.

If you're using a custom pack then its harder but I think still doable (I've looked into it but never tried), how I understood it is you need to have all the server side mods in the server mod folder and you can't have any client mods in there or it'll mess up. you'll need the appropriate forge server version for 16.5.

To play with your mods, open up your Minecraft launcher. Click on "Installations" and you should see Forge 1.8.9 there. If not, create a new installation and you should be able to choose it.
