Graduating from the University of Hawaii in 1967, Bartels received a bachelor's degree in fine arts and a graduate degree in Asian and Pacific art. [1] He served in the Navy from 1967 to 1970 and was based in Saigon during the Vietnam War. [2]

[3] Wedemeyer, a halfback, played college football for the St. Mary's College Galloping Gaels in Moraga, California. In 1945, he finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy [4] voting, and he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
