The island is the site of a graveyard once used by the Stewarts of Ballachulish, the MacDonalds of Glencoe and the Camerons of Callart. The clans shared the island and the maintenance of the graveyard, even when there was conflict between them. [3] The last burial took place in 1972, of Mrs Christina MacDonald Sharpe, a native of Glencoe. [4]
It opens onto Camus a' Chois at North Ballachulish, part of Loch Linnhe at its western end. There are nine small islands, some rocky and covered with heather and some just smooth green grass, near the western end of the loch. Glencoe or Glencoe Village (Gaelic: A’ Chàrnaich [2]) is the main settlement in Glen Coe in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands. It lies at the north-west end of the glen , on the southern bank of the River Coe where it enters Loch Leven (a salt-water loch off Loch Linnhe ).
