In 1977, Kappa Psi first welcomed women into the fraternity. [3] Today there are 105 active collegiate chapters and 73 graduate chapters across the United States, Canada, and the Bahamas, and over 80,000 people have been initiated into the fraternity since its inception. The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, established in 1981, is the philanthropic arm of the fraternity and assists both alumni and undergraduate chapters in support of scholarships, after-school programs, and national projects such as Habitat for Humanity. [21] The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation was conceived by Oliver S. Gumbs, the 23rd Grand Polemarch.
Kappa Psi Kappa was founded by five men on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.They were known as the Illustrious Elite.In the summer of 2001, these men set out and started to organize the foundation of the fraternity based upon promoting brotherhood, scholarship, service and leadership.
