    The V8 was chosen as BMW & Lexus had recently launched V8 engines in their exec. saloons. The derivation of the name AJ26 is extremely simple - the engine was designed as a Modular 6, 8 & 12 cylinder family. 6+8+12 = 26. The AJ stands for "Advanced Jaguar" following the AJ6 from the 1980's. I can't remember if I proposed this name or Dave Szczupak.
