(AP) — Mikaela Shiffrin suffered a deep puncture wound on the right side of her abdomen and “severe muscle trauma” during her scary crash in a giant slalom race on Saturday but no serious bone, ligament or organ damage. The five-time overall World Cup champion was sidelined for the Killington Cup slalom race Sunday.
In other FIS Alpine World Cup news, the Tremblant World Cup — two women’s giant slaloms at Quebec’s Mont-Tremblant scheduled for next weekend — were canceled. Killington got 21 inches of snow on Thanksgiving Day, but Tremblant — five hours north of Killington — had to cancel its races because of a lack of snow. ___
Mikaela Shiffrin avoided serious injury Friday when she crashed into the safety nets during a World Cup downhill run on the course that will also host the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics.
Shiffrin had been seeking a record-extending 100th World Cup win at the event in Killington, Vermont before she fell and crashed into safety netting during the giant slalom.
Shiffrin, the most successful alpine skier in history, suffered a puncture wound to her abdomen and severe muscle trauma when she crashed out at the Stifel Killington Cup in Vermont on November 30.
