Wagon Train is an American Western television series that was produced by Revue Studios. [1] The series was inspired by the 1950 John Ford film Wagon Master. [2] It ran for eight seasons, with the first episode airing in the United States on September 18, 1957 () and the final episode on May 2, 1965 (). [3]
This was one of Dan Duryea's rare "sympathetic" roles, and one that he would reprise for the final Wagon Train episode of the same season. [6] In his fourth appearance on Wagon Train, he played a mentally unstable man obsessed by demons and superstitions in "The Bleymier Story", broadcast 16 November 1960, eleven days after the death of Ward Bond.

The Wild Wild West blended Westerns – hugely popular on television at the time (Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wagon Train, Rawhide, etc.) – with spy adventure, which came into vogue in the wake of the highly successful James Bond films, resulting in such spy-oriented series as The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Avengers and Secret Agent.
The series starred Robert Horton, who had costarred on Wagon Train from 1957 to 1962. He left that series, vowing never to do another television western, [ 1 ] but agreed to star in A Man Called Shenandoah because he felt the show would be a great opportunity for him as an actor.
In 1964, Davis played Wyatt Earp in the episode "After the OK Corral" on Death Valley Days; William Tannen played the part of rancher and gunfighter Ike Clanton in the same episode. Davis appeared eleven times on Gunsmoke and four times each on Daniel Boone , Wagon Train , and Laramie .
