Campus Martius Park (/ ˈ m ɑːr ʃ ʌ s / MAR-shuss) [1] is a re-established park in Downtown Detroit, Michigan.After the Great Fire of 1805, Campus Martius (from the Latin for Field of Mars, where Roman heroes walked) was the focal point of Judge Augustus Woodward's plans to rebuild the city. [2]
The park consists of the former city-owned St. Aubin Park and Marina and an adjacent reclaimed brownfield. The park area was taken over by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in 2004 as Tri-Centennial State Park to commemorate the founding of Fort Detroit in 1701. It was Michigan's first state park to be situated in an urban area.
In 1957, the City of Detroit constructed a parking garage under the two halves of the park. [6] The eastern portion houses space for 250 cars and the western portion accommodates 540. [7] The half-moon shaped park is divided down its center by Woodward Avenue, the city's main thoroughfare.

Palmer Park is a 296-acre (120 ha) public park next to Detroit, Michigan's Palmer Park Apartment Building Historic District.It is named for U.S. Senator Thomas Witherell Palmer, who initially created the park when he donated 140-acre (57 ha) for a city park in 1893 [1] on the condition that the virgin forest be preserved.
