Badger is a census-designated place (CDP) in the Fairbanks North Star Borough of Alaska. It was one of the CDPs created in 2010 out of small suburbs and outskirts of Fairbanks. It has an area of 66.71 sq. mi, 65.63 of land and 1.08 of water. [2] The population of the CDP was 19,031 as of the 2020 Census, down from 19,482 in 2010.
Andrew Berg (Anders Berg; October 16, 1869 — March 1, 1939) was an immigrant to the District of Alaska who was a prominent fisher, hunter, and trapper. He became the first licensed big game guide in Alaska.
English: The western terminus of Badger Road as viewed from atop the overpass on the Richardson Highway. Portions of the area shown are in the city limits of Fairbanks. However, most of this area, including most of the area accessible from the road, form the western reaches of the Badger CDP.
The race's namesake is the Iditarod Trail, which was designated as one of the first four US National Historic Trails in 1978. [6] The trail, in turn, is named for the town of Iditarod, which was an Athabaskan village before becoming the center of the Inland Empire's [a] Iditarod Mining District in 1910, and then becoming a ghost town at the end of the local gold rush.
